Four Hours per day Monday – Thursday (9am to 1pm)

Courses: 

Voice for Actors I
9am-11am Mondays and Wednesdays 

Students learn to develop their speaking voice through exploration of breath support, tension release, proper alignment, resonance and diction while learning to connect voice to the body.

Movement for Actors I
11am-1pm Mondays and Wednesdays 

Students learn to free and strengthen their actor’s body through various dance and movement disciplines. Students learn to overcome their habitual body patterns through body awareness and tension release to create a flexible instrument that can be readily accessible for their stage work.

Acting/Text I
9am-1pm Tuesdays 

Students delve into the basics of acting technique, learning practical skills for performance. Students are guided through ensemble work, collective creation exercises, relaxation techniques and character development with the focus on opening themselves up emotionally and physically. The fall term introduces the concept of objectives and tactics as applied to neutral scenes. Every second week students spend two hours on text analysis covering playwrights in classical to contemporary theatre. Peter Brook’s The Empty Space serves as text support for this class.

Dance I
9am-11am Thursdays 

Students learn the basics of dance technique beginning with ballet and jazz. Through the practice of dance students develop good posture, strength, rhythm, flexibility and coordination.

Singing I
11am-1pm Thursdays 

Basic principles of singing as applied to musical theatre. Students learn to communicate effectively through song as they develop proper singing techniques that allow free access to all the colors and ranges in the voice.
