Halifax, April 2, 2009 – Captain Hook, Tiny Tim and Jesus Christ will all play a role in Neptune’s 46th Season, the first for new Artistic Director George Pothitos. Neptune’s 2009-2010 playbill was announced today with usual flair in Fountain Hall and includes an impressive balance of dramas, comedies and two musicals, including the season finale Peter Pan.

“I selected a season of works I think will captivate and entertain audiences, but also send them on a thought-provoking journey filled with interesting concepts and ideas,” says George Pothitos, Neptune Theatre Artistic Director. “This is my first season as Artistic Director and I look forward to a year filled with challenges and joys. I’m pleased with the broad range of themes the playbill explores and I think our 2009-2010 season offers something for everyone.”

The season opens in Fountain Hall on September 22nd with a romantic comedy set in 18th century France, the Marivaux classic The Game of Love and Chance. It is followed by David S. Young’s stage adaptation of Alistair MacLeod’s award-winning novel No Great Mischief, chronicling the MacDonald Clan’s journey from the Scottish to Cape Breton Highland with love, humour and Celtic music.

Neptune continues its recent tradition of fighting the winter blahs with a post-Christmas comedy in January with Michele Riml’s Sexy Laundry, which will be followed by David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning drama Rabbit Hole

Charles Dickens’ most beloved cast of characters will call Halifax home this holiday season as Neptune’s always popular holiday show is the timeless and tune filled A Christmas Carol: The Musical with music and lyrics by Eric Hughes. Neptune’s season finale opens on April 13th and is perhaps the most celebrated all ages musical ever created – the musical fantasy Peter Pan.

Not to be outdone, Neptune announced an exciting trio of plays for its 2009-2010 Studio Series, most notably Daniel MacIvor’s newest work A Beautiful View starring Kathryn MacLellan and Jackie Torrens. Christianity will be explored in Rick Miller’s very popular and funny Bigger than Jesus, and an unlikely pair will embark on a road trip in Canadian playwright Doug Curtis’s Mesa
