SCENE STUDY for adults with Mauralea Austin

When: April 18 - May 23

Wednesdays 6:30 - 8:30pm

Cost: $175 +HST

Space is limited to 10

One of the great things about acting is professional development; the constant exploration of what it is and how to make us better at it.  This six-week course focuses on the exercise of acting skills through the study of scenes.  We’ll examine how objectives, action, character, conflict, tension and emotional honesty are essential tools in creating a dynamic and effective performance.  Class enrolment is limited to ensure as much individual attention as possible.  This course is designed for actors who have had some previous training and experience.

A professional actor for over 30 years and two-time Merritt award winner, Mauralea has worked with Neptune Theatre, Eastern Front Theatre, Mulgrave Road Theatre, Festival Antigonish, Live Bait, Angels and Heroes and on a number of Fringe productions as both actor and director. She is one of the co-founders of LunaSea Theatre, appearing in Estate, Top Girls, Woman and Scarecrow, To Capture Light, Talking Heads, Girl in a Goldfish Bowl, Perfect Pie and taking on the directing helm of The Monument. Upcoming is the summer season with Theatre Baddeck in Ladies Foursome and Dancing on the Elephant. Mauralea balances her two careers, actor and teacher, because it is a joyful responsibility to pass on skills acquired through experience and, in so doing, is inevitably gifted a greater understanding of this beautiful art form by her students.
