At Neptune Theatre School students have the unique opportunity to learn from qualified instructors who are also professional actors and leaders in Halifax’s artistic community. We place the needs and goals of each student at the forefront of our curriculum, encouraging a safe learning environment, creativity and growth. We cater to youth from ages 4 to 18 and with focus on Drama, Musical Theatre and Improv, there is an array of performance classes and camps to choose from.

Be a part of an adventure like no other in "Theatreland"! What action super heroes may lurk stage right? Which villains stage left? What mysterious dramatic creatures hang in the wings? Students will create their own "theatrical characters" who will go on adventures of storytelling, movement and music. The perfect camp for anyone who enjoys active learning, team work and creativity.


This is the perfect camp for anyone who loves to make songs come to life. What story does the music tell us? How does it make us want to move? What do the words mean? All of these story-telling elements help us bring familiar songs to life. An ideal camp for anyone who loves to sing and dance.

The (Magical) Tricks of the Trade (Drama)

Did you know that theatre possesses it's own magical powers? The lines of a script are the spells. The characters are wizards. And the actors are magicians. From Potter to Merlin, we will use iconic wizards to explore text and characters while creating our own magical world of theatre. And maybe a few magic tricks along the way.


Do you always sing in the shower? Dance in the street? Are you a budding Musical Theatre Star? This is a perfect class for any youngster who has the "musical theatre bug" and wants to explore singing skills, choreography and creating great Broadway numbers.



Ages 10-12

Take the Stage (Drama/Improv)

Do you have a theatrical voice just waiting to get out? Have a great character in your back pocket? Love taking the stage? In this camp we will use drama games, improv, character work, script work and basic story elements to create our own creative theatrical piece unlike any other.


Singing + Dancing + Acting = Musical Theatre Stardom. This camp takes the term Triple Threat to the next dimension with this amazing week of theatre games, singing exercises, dance training and rehearsals. This class is perfect for anyone wanting to take their training to the next level.


Ages 7-17

Youth in the Booth 101 (NEW!)

Introduction to Voice Acting

Saturday, March 10; 1pm - 4pm

In this introductory class, students will be taught the fundamentals of voice acting, while gaining practical experience in our professional recording studio.

Topics covered will include:

  • What is a voiceover?
  • What sort of voice over jobs are available?
  • Voiceover procedures
  • Client expectations & studio etiquette
  • Warm up, voice, and microphone techniques

Students will practice reading a variety of original commercial and animation scripts in our recording booth with voice direction, and will be recorded by our expert engineer. After the workshop, students will receive some raw audio clips of their records along with director notes, for their reference.

Take the skills acquired from this introductory workshop and apply them to a private, directed recording session, wherein you will create your very own demo for your personal use!

Theatrical Leadership Training (NEW!)

Have you always wanted to learn about being a Leader in Theatre? Want to experience assisting with teaching theatre classes, leading games, leading activities and building your resume? This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to get a job teaching at a camp, daycare or after school program (and not necessarily only in the arts). Instructed by experienced teachers and theatre practitioners this unique program will give you the skills it will take to ake you a great artistic leader. Each day will begin and end with group sessions focusing on: working with different age groups and learning abilities, building a library of theatre games, lesson planning, conflict resolution, designing camp activities, and basic resume and interview skills. Each day Leaders will also have the opportunity to shadow different classes. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their existing talents and skills while building and gaining new ones. Successful completion of the program will result in a certification as well as being considered to be an LIT (Leader in Training) at Neptune's Summer Camps in 2018.



Teen Intensive LA Technique

Tuesday, March 13 - Thursday, March 15; 10am - 1pm

Kirstin Howell is bringing her acclaimed program The LA Technique to your March Break!

After having spent the better part of a year in LA working and training, Kiki has developed a practical, applicable, technique that will enable students to:

  • Rock an audition
  • Build a character
  • Read the sacred 'code' in any given sides
  • Take the guess work out of audition prep
  • Look at the part
  • Actually enjoy auditioning!

This program runs for 3 half days, from 10am-1pm on March 13-15th 2018 offering 9 hours of training that will focus on Film/TV acting technique but is certainly applicable to Theatre or other types of acting.



Participants are required to bring their own lunch and snacks. Neptune Theatre is NUT FREE.

Pre- & Post-Camp Care are available for an additional charge of $25 each, $50 for both. Pre-camp care is from 8am to 9am; post camp care is from 4pm to 5pm.

Neptune Theatre subscribers and sponsors are entitled to a 20% discount of the camp fee. All refunds are subject to a $35 administration fee; there are no refunds once the camp has begun.

Authorized Pick Up: No later than the first day of class parents/guardians must identify the name of the person/persons authorized to pick up students. No student will be released to anyone not identified. students may leave without being signed out if a "permission to leave" form has been submitted (forms are available from administration via email or on the first day of class).
